VINTAGE_52

In 2019 the Vintage_52 project started. This collection is based on flowers picked in 1952 in an undisclosed area in the Netherlands. The works presented here is a small selection.

ANNO_1917

Anno 1917 is tattoo project that followed in 2018, after the Filigree project. It is based on a collection of dried flowers collected in a herbarium in 1917. The origins of the plants are a little unclear, but it seems like it was picked around the Den Haag/ Scheveningen area in The Netherlands.

FILIGREE

The Filigree project is a tattoo project that started in the spring of 2017. When I was visiting my parents, I decided to go treasure hunting in the local thrift shop. While doing so, I found a herbarium filled with dried flowers. Due to their age it was already deteriorating but I was captivated by the fragility of it. The flowers and plants were all picked in 1980-1981, in- and around the area I grew up in. Because of that I was instantly drawn to this and wanted it for reference.

Fascinated by this collection there was this urge to create something with it; I want to tattoo as many of these as possible! This projects resonated with me on many levels and it has been heartwarming to see that I wasn’t the only one seeing the beauty in it.

Do not expect ‘perfect’  flowers, they are old and brittle, but because of that, they capture an even bigger and unique delicacy. My goal was to capture this feeling and transfer it onto the skin. They range from small wildflowers, to bigger grasses. Each flower has been tattooed only once. The underlying idea was to create a tattooed herbarium, therefore the original info of the plants were inserted in the final images.
